Common Allergy Symptoms

Itchy, puffy, red, burning, and watery eyes are caused by histamine — a substance your body produces in response to allergies, also known as allergic conjunctivitis. These eye symptoms may limit your ability to see clearly by also causing light sensitivity, blurry vision, and headaches. You shouldn’t have to just live with the effects allergies have on your eyes: take advantage of our treatments and our customized lifestyle recommendations to alleviate your symptoms.

Treatments for Eye Allergies

There are many ways you can broadly manage your allergies and their symptoms on your whole body, but our caring doctors are specifically trained to help you address the unique impact of allergens on your eyes. With our guidance, we can offer you a more targeted, thorough approach to maintaining healthier eyes when allergies strike.

Our treatments include:

For patients who have tried other treatments with no significant relief, immune therapy shots can help boost your body’s defense against allergies.

What You Can Do to Get Relief

At-home remedies, in combination with our treatments, can drastically reduce your allergy symptoms and prevent them from impacting your eyesight. We recommend thoroughly washing your face and eyes every night with warm water, so any allergens picked up on your eyelashes and face throughout the day aren’t rubbed into your eyes overnight. Other helpful tips include using over-the-counter artificial tears, reducing your time wearing contact lenses — which can cause allergens to stick to your eye — and getting special filters for an air purifier.
