BOTOX® Cosmetic

Wrinkles around the eyes, such as crow’s feet and worry lines, are often among the earliest signs of facial aging. At New York Ophthalmology, we use BOTOX Cosmetic injections at our Queens and Bronx clinics to help women and men look more youthful and energized.

The Benefits of BOTOX

Certain wrinkles are known as “expression lines” because they are caused by the repeated movement of facial muscles when we squint, smile, frown, appear surprised, or any other way our faces express emotions. Over time, the movement of these muscles etches lines and wrinkles—called dynamic wrinkles—into your skin. Also called dynamic wrinkles, they typically appear between the eyebrows, as vertical lines on the forehead, and as “crow’s feet” on the outside corners of the eyes.

How BOTOX Works

The active ingredient in BOTOX blocks the nerve impulses to the muscles that cause the development of dynamic wrinkles. Relaxing the muscles results in the smooth, wrinkle-free skin. It’s important that you choose a provider who places the injections with precision, which is why it’s so important that your provider thoroughly understands facial anatomy.

It takes a few days before you’ll see the results of BOTOX injections emerge. Results continue to improve for several more days and last about 4 months, although experiences vary from patient to patient.

What to Expect

BOTOX is a convenient treatment that is performed in our offices. They are quick, taking only minutes, and involve minimal discomfort. Most patients are in and out of our office in under an hour. Just avoid rubbing the treated areas that day—other than that, it’s back to your usual routine. Years of research has established BOTOX has one of the safest cosmetic treatments available today.

BOTOX or Dermal Fillers?

BOTOX and dermal fillers treat different types of wrinkles, so the answer may be both. Fillers, such as the JUVÉDERM® family of products, address lines and folds caused by age-related volume loss. These are called static wrinkles, as opposed to dynamic wrinkles. Many patients decide to combine both filler and BOTOX injections in a single appointment.

At New York Ophthalmology, our experienced team of specialists provides personalized treatment for patients concerned about appearing older than they feel. Frequently Asked Questions

How often can I get BOTOX injections?

We recommend scheduling treatments about 4 months apart. BOTOX gradually breaks down and is filtered from the body, so repeat injections are needed to maintain the results. It’s safe to undergo regularly scheduled BOTOX treatments indefinitely.

How much does BOTOX cost?

The cost of BOTOX treatments vary depending on the specific needs of each patient. The total cost is determined by the area or areas being targeted and the amount of BOTOX needed to get the desired results. We discuss the cost before each treatment.

Will my face look frozen after BOTOX?

No. An experienced, trained provider knows precisely where to place the injections and how much product to use to erase unsightly wrinkles while allowing you to retain a normal range of expressions.
